Fresh Beginnings Publishing — already fast, made findable
Michelle's book-marketing site was already fast: under a second on mobile, with a 100 on Google's speed test. It still needed a findability layer for search engines and AI assistants. In roughly two days, it got that layer, a visual refresh, and a verified spot in Google Search Console.

The problem
Perfect speed scores hid a bigger gap
Fresh Beginnings Publishing promotes Rusty the Raccoon is Scared of the Dark, a children's book Michelle wrote and illustrated. I ran my usual site checkup, and the speed numbers were already strong: under a second to load on a phone, with a 100 out of 100 on Google's test.
That looked good, but search had bigger problems. The site had no sitemap, no robots file, no link previews for social shares, and no structured data describing the publisher or the book. All seven pages used the same title and description, which made the site look to Google like the same page repeated seven times.
Three of those pages (Careers, Press, and Shop) were leftover placeholders with zero content, but they were still live and indexable. Google could easily read them as duplicate content. The site loaded quickly, but the search signals were working against it.
What I did
Built the findability layer, then refreshed the look
I started with a full audit, the same checkup I run for any local business owner who thinks their site is "fine because it loads fast." The site did load quickly, but Google and AI tools didn't have what they needed to understand the site and recommend it.
Then I rebuilt the site with a complete search layer: a sitemap and robots file, unique titles and descriptions on every page, link previews for social sharing, structured data for the publisher and the book, and a plain-text file so AI assistants can read what the business offers. I verified Google Search Console and submitted the sitemap the same day the new site went live.
I pulled the three dead-end placeholder pages and dropped the Instagram link since that account was gone. Facebook and YouTube stayed, along with the cross-link to the book's dedicated site at rustytheraccoon.com, because Fresh Beginnings is still the publisher of record.
After that, I worked on how the site looks and reads: a warmer typeface, an accent color pulled from Michelle's mushroom illustration, a homepage section that showcases the book, and refreshed About and Contact pages. I also added a custom 404 page and a storybook-style empty state for the blog, which is still waiting on its first post.
Speed stayed perfect through the redesign. I kept out heavy scripts and page-builder bloat, so it loads just as fast on phones and desktops as before, with a cleaner layout on tall screens and navigation that works on iPads, not just desktop with a mouse.

Results
Measurable, not just nicer
Every number below comes from Lighthouse reports against the live site — before on July 16, after on July 17. Speed was already fine going in. The wins here are findability and polish.
- Search setup
- 0 → complete
- Sitemap, robots file, link previews, structured data, and AI-readable site summary added.
- Google Search Console
- Live
- Property verified and sitemap processed the day the new site shipped.
- Best-practices score
- 96 → 100
- Fixed a broken favicon request and cleaned up leftover placeholder pages.
- Mobile load time
- 0.9 s
- Still under a second on a phone. Page weight dropped from 28 KiB to 25 KiB.
| Category | Before (mobile) | After (mobile) |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | 100 | 100 |
| Accessibility | 100 | 100 |
| Best practices | 96 | 100 |
| Search basics (Lighthouse) | 100 | 100 |
Lighthouse's search score only checks a handful of basics — the old site already passed while missing a sitemap, structured data, and unique page titles. The real findability work sits below what that number measures.
Desktop scores matched: 100 across the board before and after, with best practices moving from 96 to 100. Layout shift on mobile went from a small wobble to zero.
Sound familiar?
Your site might be fast and still invisible
If your site loads fine but you never show up when someone searches for what you do — or when they ask an AI assistant for a recommendation nearby — a Site Checkup is the place to start. I'll tell you plainly what's missing and what a fix would look like.
Fresh Beginnings complements the Rusty the Raccoon rescue I did — that one was a slow Wix site with a monthly bill, this one was already fast on modern hosting. Different starting points, same outcome: found on Google, ready for AI search, built to stay that way.
